Our Story

How it all started

Train Gritty didn't start with a business plan. It started with a single whiteboard bolted to the wall of a half-finished gym, a handful of athletes who kept asking the same question every Sunday night — “what am I doing this week?”— and a coach who was tired of answering it one text message at a time.

The first version of the program wasn't an app at all. It was a spiral notebook, rewritten by hand every week, photographed and sent out one athlete at a time. It worked, but it didn't scale, and it definitely didn't survive the week the notebook got left in a gym bag that ended up soaked from a leaking water bottle. Three days of programming, gone, with a gym full of athletes waiting on Monday-morning strength numbers that no longer existed anywhere.

That was the moment the idea actually took shape. Not “wouldn't it be nice to have an app,” but a flat refusal to let one soggy notebook ever again stand between an athlete and the work they showed up to do. The whiteboard sessions turned into structured blocks — strength, Olympic lifting, the WOD, accessories — and the structure turned into something worth building properly: one place, built specifically for the way this gym actually trains, where a coach could write a session once and an athlete could never again wonder what today was supposed to look like.

The name came from the thing that mattered more than any single lift ever did. Not talent, not genetics, not the perfect program — grit. The willingness to load the bar again on the day you don't feel like it. Every athlete who has ever trained under this program, from the very first notebook page to the version you're reading this on, has that in common. Train Gritty was built to make sure that grit always has a plan to point it at.
